Magic Lives At The Movies
Posted on August 27, 2010 · Leave a CommentWhen your kids need a little straigtening out, who do you call?
No, not grandma! Try Nanny McPhee!
She returns with a little bit of sugar and spice for the kids in part 2 of the original movie! Not so easy on the eyes and quite magical, Nanny McPhee commands kids to get their acts together!
If we had on site, she’d probably command you to go see the movie this weekend! It’s fun, family oriented and very cute in the values that it teaches throughout the film!
NOW PLAYING: NANNY McPHEE RETURNS (RATED PG)

L&L BBQ is our Neighborhood Choice for Paradise!
Posted on August 26, 2010 · Leave a CommentWe hope you don’t plan on missing our Luau/Summer BBQ this weekend. If anything else doesn’t get you here, the food will!
Our very own handy-dandy gourmet chef, Stephanie, (okay she works in the office) will be sticking it to us with some tropical vegan, beef and chicken shish kabobs—straight Hawaiian style (wonder if she’ll give us the recipe)!!
Another delight will definitely be the sponsored food from L&L Barbecue! We sure want you to taste it here first, but if you happen to miss it Saturday, you should definitely “lei” your tummy down at their table soon!
How naïve of us to think that a restaurant as homey and authentic as this, was only confined to our neighborhood? The franchise grew as the Drive-Inn Hawaiian BBQ spot along most of the west coast and Hawaii (as a matter of fact, that’s where it started).
Their BBQ is so much more than the smoky, wood-grill taste we get in traditional food. It serves up a kick of Asian and American fusion with sweet and spicy sauces.
Their menu is tailored to offer large portion sides and meats for the entire family! Expect to see their coconut steamed white rice, grill-roasted veggies and infamous Macaroni Salad at our BBQ.
Our neighborhood drive-thru-paradise at 3580 Homestead Road, right here in Santa Clara! They also do call-in orders (408-246-0896).
Go ahead—check them out and tell them the staff at Woodbridge sent you!
We’re at 100 Posts!!

“Bust-A-Groove” at Summer Market + Music
Posted on August 11, 2010 · Leave a CommentWednesday may not be the weekend, but it sure feels like it when the Market + Music Summer Series is in season. Just a couple more shows left to spice up Downtown Sunnyvale.
This week’s performer is the Bay Area’s Hottest Party Band, Busta Groove. If you’re looking to have a relaxed evening today, the band will do just what their name implies. The band formed in 1997 and every since has been the must-book band for hit dance music from the 70’s-Today!!!
Eat, Shop and Dance tonight from 5:00-8:30PM on historic Murphy Avenue! The event is completely free! This might be one of the staple shows to see before the September 1st end date, so get that work done on time, so you can be free by 5!!
You’ll still have time to go home and slip into something more “groovy” as the concert is only 3 blocks away!! You probably won’t need directions because, the party will be IN THE STREETS!!
Four Paws for The Pooch Hotel
Posted on August 5, 2010 · Leave a CommentSome of our pets are like children to us. When we leave to go out of town or are away from our apartments for a long period of time, we don’t just leave our children at home to sit themselves until we get back right? The premise is same with our pets.
How about treating them to nice things as we would our kids, when they beg us for treats, toys or a little day that’s all about them?
I’m sure a few of us aren’t the only ones that think that way – or else – they wouldn’t have opened the Pooch Hotel!
The Silicon Valley Location debuted in fall 2009 and joins its other “hotels” in the group as one of the most luxurious and expensive places for pups and pooches to stay.
This may just be more than a home-away-from-home for your dog, there’s a slight possibility that they won’t want to come home after a stay here.
The hotel is fully staffed and is open 24/7/365 for parents who don’t want their dogs to stay at home crying of confinement or for those whose friends can’t seem to handle your pet like the diva they are.
The hotel doesn’t just offer rooms to board, but SPAW treatments and Daycare/Training Class services as well.
Hotels have accommodations from Junior Suites that start at $50, to, of course, the Presidential and Palace Suites. Limo service, injections and extra playtime are offered alongside these packages.
When you’re at work all day and the kids are at school, your dog will find the Pooch Hotel Daycare to be something to look forward to weekly! The hotel even offers pick up/drop-off service to select companies and residences within the Santa Clara County.
Don’t be surprised when you heading out the door to start your week, and your dog is already by the door– bags packed and ready to go! The Pooch Hotel is the bark of the town!

Tours given from 10AM-4PM (no holidays)
Belly Workout (For The Whole Body)
Posted on August 4, 2010 · Leave a CommentDitch the old salsa and cha-cha lessons! Get your whole body worked up with belly-
dancing! It may have originated as an entertainment dance, but Ladies of Woodbridge, this is one dance you can burn some calories off with as an exercise!
Persephone Dance Company in San Jose will be hosting a Tribal-Style Workshop alongside Fat Chance Belly Dance, this Sunday (August 8th)! I know you’ve seen some expert belly dancers and gawked at their skill and physique….This is how they get it done!
The American Tribal Style movement is an improvisational form of belly-dancing which relies on freedom of the body and organic rhythm. Basically, no 8 counts of choreography, just a natural dance workout!
Learn traditional dancing cues and movements, as well as what embodies this graceful work of art and communal dance.
Classes are offered as a part of a series, the next class being this Sunday from 2PM-4PM. The cost of this open workout/ dance class is $25 per person! With the complex moves you’ll walk away with after, the price is definitely worth it!
Feel free to dress the part with hip scarves, foot thongs and traditional zills! Most importantly, dress comfortable, as you WILL be doing some moving!
The Persephone Dance Studio is only 12 minutes from Woodbridge…and welcomes all walk-ins for the event!

S.M.A.R.T. Shopping for Back-To-School
Posted on July 30, 2010 · Leave a CommentAugust 25th marks the first day of school for students who are enrolled in the Sunnyvale School System. That’s less than a month away—can you believe it? It was just the other day we were planning our final summer vacations and now we have to plan for the dreaded back-to-school shopping. It can be a pain if you haven’t planned ahead or planned SMART…How do you plan SMART shopping?
We came up with this acronym for our Woodbridge residents to remember during these final countdown days.
Thanks to this Great Schools article for giving us inspiration!
S is for Saving and Savings. You have the entire summer to prepare. Put a little aside for when the time finally comes around! That way you can avoid being frugal and not spending appropriately for your child. With that being said, the word “savings” is a must when shopping. If you have a child with expensive taste, you want to give them what they want, but at a reasonable cost. Keep your eyes peeled
for savings promotions for summer clearances (shorts, tees, and most clothes are best to buy from these sales). Hold on to those Back-to-School and Tax-Free papers that come in the mail! They help if you use them wisely.
M is for Make Everything Count. Keep and inventory of things you’ve bought previously for your child. Remember those extra packs of notebook paper you stashed away from last year’s sale because they were only .50c? Easy mistakes like forgetting what you already have, can cause you to go out and waste money on repeat items. The same goes for clothes in the closet. Keep track of those gently-worn basics, such as jackets, pant, and under-garments.
A is for Assess Wants from Needs. Kids use need when they really want something. That alone is trouble to your wallet. Enough said…
R is for Retail is not always the best way to go. The article describes buying basic items in bulk! Electronics, Supplies, Textbooks Material and even Food for lunch fit the criteria. CostCo., E-Bay and Dollar Stores are good places to stock up.
T is for Take Your Time. You don’t have to buy everything for the whole school year in one weekend! If you buy a little at a time, you can buy as things go on sale, or as you see fit. For example, a school supply guide lists a TI-83 calculator as something to get for the kid. You fork out $100 to get it. And to much surprise your child doesn’t use it all year. This goes to another good tip, which is to get involved with your child’s teachers for the year and ask what is pertinent to get now or later.
We hope you remember this as you go out amongst the other sea of parents who are as ruffled to get this shopping done like you. It will definitely save you from drowning!
Also, keep up with Sunnyvale School Announcements to stay ahead of the game!
It’s Storytime…En Espanol!!
Posted on July 28, 2010 · Leave a CommentWho knew enrichment could come from entertainment? Kids like a good storytime, but they’ll love one that is animated and told through two different perspectives.
The Sunnyvale Public Library “Cuento Bilingues” (or Bilingual Storytime) has stories of Spanish and English for children of all ages.
Every Thursday, you can bring your child to the library, ’sippy’ cup and blanket in hand, for a wild adventure story through culture and moral. Learn about and listen to “corridos” which are narrative stories of triumph and determination.
For kids who want to learn Spanish, the stories narrated will increase your knowledge of the language in a natural setting. For bilingual kids, enjoy hearing stories about you culture and help join conversations with others after the story.
Story time lasts from 11:00-11:30PM, so get there on time, “find a spot and cop a squat”!
